Prom Dresses 2014

Prom Dress1

Prom season is right around the corner! I know most of my audience is women in their late 20s-50s. However, some of my readers (like my Blog Mentee, Tia, who is now a freshman in college) are a little younger. So, this post is for those of you looking for prom dresses THIS prom season!

I remember going prom dress shopping with my mom and grandma early one spring morning during my senioryear of high school. I was especially thankful and happy to have my grandma there because I knew she would be moving back home to SC soon. To avoid the crowds we hit the NYC stores early and luckily we finished early.

It didn’t take me long to find my prom and after-prom dresses but I remember feeling so lost and overwhelmed when we started. When we arrived at the first store I had NO clue what I wanted to look like or feel like prom night. To help some of you who may be looking, I want to share a few prom night looks from I think are gorgeous and age-appropriate.

The first dress (above) is the A-Line/Princess One-Shoulder Floor-Length Chiffon Prom Dress with Ruffle Beading. This dress is absolutely gorgeous. Any young lady who wears this dress is sure to look and feel like a princess. This color is gorgeous, too. Yellow can be hard to wear but this yellow has just enough “pop” not to wash out fair skin tones but to look magical against a deeper skin tone.

Another dress I love is the Empire Strapless Ankle-Length Chiffon Charmeuse Prom Dress with Ruffle Sash (above). It’s a beautiful color also and the sash can be tied to the back or front which makes it fun because you change your look to suit you. Be sure to wear the proper under garments in a gown like this though. Strapless can be problematic if you have a large bust and there’s dancing involved!

Finally, the A-Line/Princess Halter Floor-Length Tulle Prom Dress (below) with Beading is one of my favorites, too. This color is fun and the neckline and belt are gorgeous. This dress has so much glitz and glamour that you can skip bold accessories and makeup and let the dress stand alone. I love dresses like this because you don’t have to do too much to look gorgeous and stand out. I also love the fit and flare cut because it flatters most body types.
